Hi I’m your Host Don Henderson. My wife and two adult sons, one daughter-in-law and two twin grandsons (who call me “Grandpop”) have moved from Ohio to Florida to escape 20 years of winters. For those of you who like cold weather I say more power to you. But for those of you who like me and my son who suffer from S.A.D. Seasonal Affective Disorder, I have good news for you. They don’t call this the Sunshine State for nothing and vitamin D is dosed out for free! Where did we land? Pinellas County in the unincorporated city of Seminole, just a 5 minute drive to some beautiful beaches and sunsets you’ll ever want to see. We fish, boat, run crab traps and live the Florida Lifestyle as much as we can while situated between Clearwater and St. Petersburg.
We made the trip and now Florida is our home, but it wasn’t all Sunshine and Warm breezes. What did we learn along the way, “lots,” and would we do it again “you betcha.” This Podcast is designed to give you some insight into the Florida Lifestyle. Insider tips if you will about moving here, working here and just what it takes to stay. So if you’re considering making Florida your Home, stay tuned to the Podcast as we learn together just what it takes to Become a Floridian.
In these Podcasts we will interview; City officials, Business owners, Schools Board Members, Floridians, and those making the move here and those who have survived the journey. Special on location interview with live feed via Periscope.
Hi, my name is Dennis Henderson, I’m one of the son’s Don mentioned above. In a lot of ways you could say I helped to inspire the Becoming Floridian podcast as back in 2014 my wife and I had decided it was time to escape the cold winters of centeral Ohio. After my wife Jennifer and I had set a goal to move to Florida, we spoke to my parents Don and Debbie Henderson, and brother Daniel Henderson about the idea of moving cross country to see if they would be interested, and to our surprise, they were all on board. Over a year later we all found ourselves happily transplanted into the sunshine state of Flordia, living below the winter frost line and haven’t looked back since.
I have been happily married to my wife Jennifer for over a decade, and have identical twin boys Zach and Eli who are full of energy and love sports. I have a long career in infrastructure and technology and help develop the website and social media content.
I look forward to continuing to grow the Podcast, helping develop content that is enjoyable to the listeners, and to help provide value to those that want to learn more about the Florida lifestyle.
